With a rich ruby color, this full-bodied wine opens with aromas of cigar box, Bing cherries, cranberry sauce, saddle leather, and bay leaves. On the palate, we find flavors of Luxardo cherries, Campari, Valrhona chocolate, pomegranates, and apple tartlets, with robust tannins and hints of freshly turned earth and crushed rocks on the long and persistent finish.
2018 Vintage Notes
The 2018 growing season began with abundant winter rains that replenished the soils, followed by ideal temperate weather throughout spring and summer. With cooler-than-normal temperatures through September and no significant heat events, the grapes could ripen gradually and develop perfect physiological ripeness, complex flavors, and a favorable balance between sugar and natural acidity.
“Bright ruby-red; aromas of black plum, black currant, and thistle. Medium-full with excellent depth of fruit, good acidity, medium-full tannins, and notable persistence. This is neither overly ripe nor aggressive in its approach, and as such is approachable now with most red meats (especially a t-bone steak), while it will reveal more character in another year or two, with peak drinking in 7-10 years. Excellent.” 93 Points - Tom Hyland
“Deep purple-black colored, the barrel sample of 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountainside reveals open-knit notes of blueberry compote, plum preserves, and red and black currants with nuances of tilled soil, underbrush, bouquet garni, and mossy bark. The palate is medium-bodied, elegant, and fresh with a chewy frame and earthy finish.” (89-91) Points: An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. In short, these are terrific wines -Lisa Perrotti-Brown, November 2019
