2021 Acumen PEAK Edcora Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Atlas Peak

EDCORA VINEYARD
Located a half mile away from our Attelas Vineyard, and approximately 350 feet higher up the mountain, Edcora (which neighbors the famed Stagecoach Vineyard) features shallow, iron-rich volcanic soils atop a hard layer of volcanic andesite. This unique soil makeup provides excellent drainage, while concentrating the energy of the vines on ripening the fruit. Together, these factors produce the small berries and thick skins that are treasured by mountain winemakers. Edcora is planted to 78 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon spread over 20 individual blocks, along with Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. With a southwest-facing exposure, and a high-elevation climate, Edcora enjoys a long growing season that ensures ideal ripeness, depth, complexity and phenolic concentration.
2021 VINTAGE
While another year of drought conditions on Atlas Peak produced small clusters andberries—thereby lowering yields somewhat—the quality of the vintage was exceptional, resulting in beautifully concentrated mountain wines, with pure, polished flavors andlovely underlying complexity. Overall, the growing season was relatively mild andcompletely ee of drama. Aer modest rains in January and February, there was nonotable precipitation for the rest of the season and no major heat spikes. As a result, flower, bloom and set were all excellent, and the grapes were able to ripen slowly andevenly, developing wonderful depth and character.
NOTES FROM OUR WINEMAKER
Showcasing the concentration and complexity of Edcora Vineyard, this wine offersremarkable depth and richness, with powerful aromas of wild berry, cassis, mountainsage, roasted coffee, graphite, smoke and sweet oak. On the beautifully structuredpalate, rich tannins and and a natural underlying density provide a sense of balance andcohesiveness to luxurious layers of dark berries and wild herbs, with notions of oak spice and adding sweetness and freshness to the dark fruit and volcanic minerality.
