PEAK Wines

With every vintage of our PEAK wines, our goal is to craft consummate expressions of our organically-farmed estate vineyards on the high-mountain slopes of Napa Valley’s acclaimed Atlas Peak. To preserve the complexity of our vineyards and ensure that we have numerous lots to choose from during blending, we individually ferment each block and varietal. Then, after extensive sensory analysis, we select our very finest blocks and barrels of wine to craft our PEAK wines.

With our PEAK Sauvignon Blanc, we seek to reflect our rugged mountain terroir in a refined, elegant, and age-worthy white wine. The grapes are sourced exclusively from 2 blocks of Sauvignon Blanc vines in our high-elevation Attelas Vineyard, which produces unique berries of intense fruit character and vibrant acidity.  Located in the famed eastern mountains of Napa Valley, our Attelas Vineyard was first planted in 1992 and was the original ‘home vineyard’ of legendary winegrower Dr. Jan Krupp. Attelas is situated at approximately 1,300 feet and features 32 acres of vines, planted in volcanic, clay, and loam soils. With a predominantly northwest exposure, Attelas is a cool site in a cooler appellation, making it ideal for our complex and structured style.

Luxurious aromas of blackberry and black cherry leap from the glass, followed by sophisticated nuances of dried herbs, cedar, sage, and dusty earth. On the palate, this wine is generous and alluring, with dramatic dark berry and spice flavors, rich, mouth-filling tannins, and an age-worthy structure that reflects its high-mountain origins.

Located in Napa Valley’s famed eastern mountains of Napa Valley, our Attelas Vineyard was first planted in 1992 and was the original ‘home vineyard’ of legendary winegrower Dr. Jan Krupp (predating his famed Stagecoach Vineyard by three years). Attelas is situated at approximately 1,300 feet and features 32 acres of vines, planted in volcanic, clay, and loam soils as a mosaic of 20 vineyard blocks— including eight blocks and six different clones of Cabernet Sauvignon. Attelas also includes plantings of Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel and Tempranillo. With a predominantly northwest exposure, Attelas is a cool site in a cooler appellation, making it ideal for our complex and structured style.

Located a half-mile away from our Attelas Vineyard, and approximately 350 higher up the mountain, Edcora (which neighbors the famed Stagecoach Vineyard) features shallow, iron-rich volcanic soils atop a hard layer of volcanic andesite.  This unique soil makeup provides excellent drainage while concentrating the energy of the vines on ripening the fruit. Together, these factors produce the small berries and thick skins that are treasured by mountain winemakers. Edcora is planted to 78 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon spread over 20 individual blocks, along with Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. With a southwest-facing exposure and an ideal high-elevation climate, Edcora enjoys a long growing season that ensures ideal ripeness, depth, complexity, and phenolic concentration.

Mountainside Wines

High atop Napa’s Atlas Peak, Acumen crafts distinct Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc from certified organic and sustainably farmed vines with a mineral core thanks to the volcanic soils of the mountain. Sitting above the fog line, sunshine can ripen fruit without experiencing excessive temperatures, ensuring that wines have structure and complexity, leaning towards an Old World style. For a broader appeal, Acumen’s Mountainside wines offer a higher production and, with the exception of the Sauvignon Blanc, are also 100 percent estate-driven.

This lovely pale and golden straw-colored Sauvignon Blanc begins with a bouquet of citrus blossoms, fresh tangerines, Bosc pear, and jasmine. On the palate, this medium-bodied wine continues with flavors of ripe white grapefruits, mandarin oranges, and caramelized Meyer lemon cream along with notes of pineapple rind, lemon verbena, and wet slate. Clean acidity and pleasant texture frame the long and pure finish of this enjoyable and refreshing wine.

Wine Advocate
“Deep purple-black colored, the barrel sample of 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountainside reveals open-knit notes of blueberry compote, plum preserves, and red and black currants with nuances of tilled soil, underbrush, bouquet garni, and mossy bark. The palate is medium-bodied, elegant, and fresh with a chewy frame and earthy finish.” (89-91) Points: An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. Michel Gonet Champagne

Available in our PEAKEasy Room, Champagne Gonet was founded in 1802 and, since then, six generations of family members have ensured that the House has grown and prospered. We are pleased to offer three selections of this special sparkling to delight your palate.

From the classic Grand Cru village of Mesnil-sur-Oger, known for its razor-sharp acidity, comes this elegant vintage Blanc de Blancs champagne. Delicate aromas of citrus and green apple are given weight by a lightly creamy, biscuit texture. Acidity is nervy and cutting, still very fresh over eight years after the vintage. A long, persistent, subtly spicy finish completes this keenly priced wine.

Gonet is a very old name in Champagne. The family moved to Champagne from the Beaujolais in the 15th century and worked in the vineyards before establishing a Champagne house in the early 1800s. Each subsequent generation helped lay a foundation for a successful domaine with the most recent patriarch, Michel Gonet, enlarging the cellars in Avize and refocusing their winemaking in the 1970s. The total holdings are around 40 hectares, consisting mostly of Chardonnay on the Côte des Blancs. The vines are located in the villages of Le Mesnil sur Oger, a little further south, in Vindey on the Sézannais hillsides, and also near Troyes, on the slopes of Montgueux.

92 Points: "Opening in the glass with a youthfully reserved bouquet of white currants, citrus oil, warm bread, and wet stones, Gonet's 2011 Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru is full-bodied, deep, and tensile, with a racy spine of acidity, a fleshy core, and a long, saline finish. Mineral and elegantly austere, this is nonetheless beautifully balanced and represents a decided success in a challenging vintage." Wine Advocate
