About Tom Hyland
Tom Hyland is a Chicago-based wine writer, educator, and photographer. He writes wine articles, including winery features, for Forbes.com (50,836,000 monthly web visits). He contributes new articles up to several times per week. Tom also writes about wine for Decanter (print circulation: 43,000; 459,500 monthly web visits) and Wine-Searcher.com (2,493,300 estimated monthly web visits). Tom previously contributed to The SOMM Journal and Quarterly Review of Wines.
Tom has been in the wine business for almost 40 years. He specializes in Italian wines, and has conducted seminars on several occasions for the Italian Trade Commission in New York City and Chicago as well as for VinItaly USA, both in Chicago and Miami. He has also led wine seminars for the trade and public.
For the past 20 years, Tom has been a freelancer, writing professionally about wines from around the world, based on visits to wine regions from Napa Valley to Champagne, and virtually every region in Italy. He has written two books on Italian wines (Beyond Barolo and Brunello, The Wines and Foods of Piemonte) and one book on Champagne (The Essence of Champagne). While he writes about wines from many countries, his primary focus is on the wines of Italy.
