Tasting Notes

The wine itself is screamingly good and completely over-delivers for the money. The palate expresses seductive notes of crisp green apple, pear, and honeysuckle along with lightly toasted brioche and slight honey. The wine spent 5 years on its lees so it has that creamy, beady characteristic that extended lee aging gives a lovely Blanc de Blancs. There is a splendid limestone-driven mineral aspect that lies just underneath the above notes that brings this all together. Truly a delight to taste!

Champagne Gonet was founded in 1802, though the estate’s modern-day story began in 1973 when Michel took control of the domain. The estate’s 40 hectares of vines stretch across some of Champagne’s best-known Grand Cru villages and are rooted in the region’s signature chalky soils. The (100%) Chardonnay for this wine comes from the Grand Cru of Le Mesnil Sur Oger, leading to a mineral-driven wine noted with flavors of citrus, honey, & brioche.

Reviews

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"Opening in the glass with a youthfully reserved bouquet of white currants, citrus oil, warm bread, and wet stones, Gonet's 2011 Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru is full-bodied, deep and tensile, with a racy spine of acidity, a fleshy core, and a long, saline finish. Mineral and elegantly austere, this is nonetheless beautifully balanced and represents a decided success in a challenging vintage." 92 Points - William Kelley
